Leave a Legacy

Most of us probably don’t put much thought toward our legacy because we think it is something that you put off until you’re older. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The truth is that you are creating your legacy every moment you are alive.

The decisions you make today shape the world you will live in tomorrow, for you and the others around you. The way you live out each moment will impact your future, your children’s future, and your grandchildren’s future, should you be blessed to have them.

Be intentional. Be proactive. Here are some simple ways to live out your legacy today:

  • Be known as someone who prays. Our greatest impact on the world around us comes through prayer. Make it a habit. Live each moment as an expression of prayer. (Thes. 5:17)
  • Be known as someone who faces life with joy. Joy is more than happiness. Joy is a contentment that results from knowing that there is a deeper truth than the circumstances that sway us. It is realizing that, of all the possible paths we could take, we are on the right one. (Thes. 5:16)
  • Be known as someone who is thankful. Thank those who serve you, even though it may be their job to do so. Thank your family for how they love you. Thank your friends for how they stand by you, even when you are wrong. (Thes. 5:18)
  • Be known as someone who is loyal. Jesus sacrificed himself for us. Pursue that kind of commitment for those around you. (Phil. 2:5-8)
  • Be known as someone who puts others first. Our culture today is overrun with selfishness. The “me generation” is actually every generation. Stand against the tide. (Phil. 2:4)
  • Be known as someone who seeks and lives for the kingdom. Make the kingdom a priority and everything else will fall into place. (Matt 6:33)
  • Be known as someone who loves others. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things. Love never ends. (1 Cor 13)

A legacy must be created in community. Hermits don’t leave a legacy because their lives are not lived out interacting with others. Your world will change as you engage it for change.

Make a difference that lasts. Start today. Start right now.
