I’m not very good at waiting. I’m not sure that many of us in our current time and culture are, especially in all that has happened in this last year. We want this to all be over! Even though it is now 2021, the same issues are still with us. Unfortunately, we were not magically transported into a new existence at midnight, December 31, 2020.
So, we continue to wait.
How shall we, then, wait?
Pray
Though we may still be waiting in many ways, do not wait to pray. The type of prayer I am referring to is not the petition type of prayer. We should be upping our game in prayers of praise and thanksgiving for what God has done, what he is doing, and what he will do. He is at work. We need to open our eyes to see it. Part of the process of having our eyes opened is spending more time with God in prayer.
Don’t stop
Be active while you wait. Don’t allow the uncertainty of tomorrow to freeze you in your tracks today! Be involved in the lives of those around you. Find new ways to love, new ways to listen, and new ways to give. Our current situation, whatever it is, has not stopped God from being at work. It shouldn’t stop us either!
Look at Right Now
Use what is available in the now. So often, we find ourselves waiting for some resource to allow us to move forward. Instead, use what God has given you right now to make a difference. He may yet bless you with more to use but, for now, increase your impact on your community with what you currently have. In our culture, we certainly have more than enough!
As you walk through this day and the days to follow, wait actively. Reach out to those around you. Smile. Encourage. Laugh. Help. Love. Hope. Remember that we are citizens of a kingdom that has a perfect king and has no end!
