Why is our blog called “Mobilizing for the Kingdom?”
To answer, let’s start at the end, with what it’s all about:
The Kingdom.
Jesus established his kingdom here in us and gave us a commission – an assignment – to tell everyone about it.
We love the picture of the kingdom found in Daniel 2. Here’s a quick review: Nebuchadnezzar, ruler of Babylon during the exile of the Jews had a dream of a huge statue made of many different materials which was destroyed by a rock that was cut out of a mountain without hands. Then, “the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth.”
Daniel interpreted the dream for the king. The statue represented the kingdoms of the earth. The stone was the kingdom of God. Daniel put it this way: “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.”
That is the kingdom we are part of, the one that fills the whole earth in the end.
So what is mobilizing for the kingdom?
Jesus’ Great Commission to engage the whole world with the good news of the kingdom is for all of us, but we all have different parts to play. The apostle Paul explained those different parts with an agricultural metaphor. Someone plants the seed, another waters and tends the plants, and yet another harvests the crops.
In order to take the good news to the entire world, some of us must leave our homes and go to other cultures. If we feel like God wants that to be us, how do we go about it? That is where a mobilizer comes in. We serve as coaches for people God is moving into cross-cultural kingdom work. We want to encourage them and facilitate their efforts to respond to God’s leading in obedience.
Anyone can help the mobilization effort. Here are a few ways to take part:
- Pray for more harvesters. Jesus asks us to. One of the places that request is recorded is in Luke 10:2, so many of us set our phones to alarm at 10:02 each day to remind us to do just that.
- Listen well to the God story in other people’s lives and encourage them to respond with steps of obedience to his leading.
- Suggest that friends connect with the outreach leaders at your church to see how they can be involved, locally and globally.
- Mobilize yourself to impact the community around you. Consider how you might expand your influence to other parts of the world.
- Pray for and support those who have made mobilizing others their life’s work. We need and appreciate it!
